What can I do if I emigrate with children?

What can I do if I emigrate with children? 22-10-2018

To Emigrate is a complex process that involves important changes around the person who lives it. A child/adolescent who emigrates is immersed not only in a change of country, but also in a change of educational system, of group of friends, sometimes of language, and of structure in general.

We recommend the following:

1. Prepare your child for change well in advance. Start imagining from before you migrate, what may be different in the next country and how you can prepare for it.
2. Ensure that your child has the opportunity to do activities to share with their friends before migrating.
3. Plan a way to keep in touch with friends who will be left behind
4. Research fun things that may be of interest to your child wherever they go (beaches, adventures, sports, arts, social activities, clubs, etc.). Investigate it with your child so that it can be made a pleasant expectation of the place where they will go.

It is normal for feelings of sadness and anxiety to arise in this new process of adaptation. They may encounter academic and social challenges wherever they go. We recommend that you be accompanied by a therapist, both before migrating and in the process of adapting to your new place of residence.
